Job description: Candidates should have proven record of experience in molecular biology techniques. Experience in mammalian cells culture and handling of parasite culture will be preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS -
1. PROJECT ASSOCIATE: Ph.D (Candidates should clearly specify whether thesis for Ph.D Degree has been submitted & viva is awaited or Ph.D Degree has been awarded, along with the date of submission of Thesis or date of award of degree, whichever is applicable.

2. J.R.F. (PROJECT: M Sc. in Bio-chemistry with some exposure to cell culture systems during M.Sc. dissertation work. (Please note that the candidates who have appeared for Final year M Sc and are awaiting their results are not eligible. Only those candidates whose results have been declared at the time of submission of application may apply).
EMOLUMENTS: The selected candidates will draw consolidated emoluments as per Institute Rules. The three different slabs for Project Associates are mentioned below :

PROJECT ASSOCIATE: Rs 16,000 consolidated p.m. plus 30% HRA

J.R.F. (PROJECT): Rs 12000 consolidated p.m. plus 30% HRA

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. The posts exist in sponsored projects and are purely temporary. There shall be no claim for regularisation against any core posts of the Institute.
2. For Project Associate, Ph.D and who have qualified National qualifying examination NET/GATE/CSIR/ICMR will be given preference.
3. The candidates selected for the above posts will be on contract for one year or duration of the project whichever is shorter, at a time. The contract wherever applicable can be renewed on year to year basis within the project duration, subject to a maximum period of 7 years accumulation in one/several project.
4. The Project Associate will be paid consolidated emoluments in any of the three slabs indicated above depending on the qualifications, experience, and suitability subject to the recommendations of the Selection Committee. Project Assistant will be paid emoluments indicated above. No allowances, perks are payable over and above the consolidated emoluments. Rules and regulations governing the terms of appointment will be as applicable to the project staff.
5. No hostel/ housing facility will be provided. However allotment of shared dormitory accommodation can be considered depending on availability. No HRA will be payable if such accommodation is availed of.
6. Number of posts may vary and shall be need based. Advertisement is no commitment.
7. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
8. The Institute reserves the right to alter the designation of the posts any time at its discretion. These posts can also be filled in a lower grade at the discretion of the Institute, in case suitable candidates with requisite qualification and experience are not forthcoming.

Inviting Application for Research Associate (RA) and Technical Assistant

Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate (RA) and Technical Assistant (TA) in the DBT project entitled "Construction of chickpea BAC library as genomic resource, cloning and characterization of R-gene/s for Fusarium wilt". The position is purely temporary, renewable after every one year on the basis of performance and co-termius with the project.

Research Associate (one post). A fresh Ph.D with experience in molecular biology and genomics, biochemistry, life sciences, biotechnology, or related field is preferred however not essential. Knowledge in plant genomics and protein chemistry is desirable.

Technical Assistant (one post). B.Sc. candidate with minimum of 2 years experience in any government R&D laboratory, University, Institute or fresh M.Sc. in plant sciences, biochemistry, life sciences, biotechnology or related field is preferred. Knowledge in molecular biology and plant genomics is desirable.

NIPGR may select candidates in lower grade against any of the above post depending upon qualifications and experience of the candidates and reserves the right to relax any of the qualification in case the candidate is found otherwise well qualified by the selection committee. The stipend will be as mentioned in the project sanction order.

Walk In Interview to Engage Junior Research Fellow at Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun


The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 03 Junior Research Fellows through a Walk-in-Interview to be held on Monday, 30th March 2009. The details of the positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below.
Project Title, details of position and duration: Study of impacts of biotic disturbances on birds in western Himalayas and development of bird-habitat monitoring protocol. (01 – JRF)
Duration: Two years.
Essential Qualification: Masters degree in (Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Experimental Biology/ Environment Sciences/Biological Sciences/Wildlife Sciences or any subject relevant to Wildlife Sciences) with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks, from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate should have good skills in bird identification and a decent knowledge of their vocalizations also. Familiarity with birds of Western Himalayas would be an added qualification. Candidate should be ready to spend considerably long stretches of time in difficult conditions in the forests of Western Himalayas.
Description of Work: The task in the field would primarily involve collecting bird and vegetation data, analyzing it, as given below:
1. Birds – To conduct point transect surveys to collect information on density and diversity of birds in different disturbance regimes in the study area of Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand and adjoining Uttar Pradesh.
2. Vegetation – To quantify vegetation structure and composition parameters like plant species diversity and foliage height diversity through measurements in vegetation plots.
3. Analysis and report writing – To analyse data and write report.

Project Title, details of position and duration: Conservation of the endangered Asiatic Wild Dog Cuon alpinus in Western Arunachal Pradesh: linking ecology, ethnics and economics to foster better coexistence. (02 – JRF)
Duration: Three years.
Essential Qualification: Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Animal Science/Zoology/Ecology/ Environmental Sciences/ Environment Management with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification: Prior experience in animal census techniques, habitat assessment techniques, radio-telemetry, community based conservation efforts, and be familiar with the conservation issues of Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspot.
Description of Work:To study the ecology of dholes for the first time in this geographic range and initiate conservation efforts. The results of the work will attempt to ensure long-term survival of dholes and resolving conflicts with local people in Arunachal Pradesh. The Work involves extensive surveying and field data collection in biologically and socio-culturally rich state of Arunachal Pradesh.

GENERAL:
The age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years as on 25th March 2009. Upper age limit for JRF may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
Selected candidate for the position of Junior Research Fellows (JRF) will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month.
Research personnel may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.
Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis initially and may be extended for further period depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project.

The selection of the candidates will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Monday, 30th March 2009 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun.

NCCS invites applications from the eligible candidates pursuing M.Sc in any branch of Life Sciences and in Penultimate year of their degree, to undertake Summer Training as a part of their course curriculum at this Institute.
Criteria:-
1. Candidates should be pursuing their M.Sc. in any branch of Life Sciences and in Penultimate year of their degree.
2. First Class in all qualifying examinations starting from 10th standard.
3.The applications should be forwarded by Head of the Department and it should be essential part of their M.Sc. Degree.
4.Incomplete applications and those not fulfilling these criteria should be rejected.
5.The selected candidate should complete their project in the prescribed period. Extension, if any, will be given only in exceptional cases.
6.Minimum period of training is six weeks.

Information on Project Training
NCCS accepts students for pursuing their projects where such projects are essential part of the curriculum. Only those pursuing their M.Sc. or M. Tech. are accepted for such projects. Those pursuing any Bachelor’s degree (including Engineering and Technology) are NOT eligible. However exception will be made for those coming through national level meritorious programs such as KVPY, INSA, JNCASR etc.
In case of candidates pursing integrated M.Sc. / M. Tech degree those completed at least three years of such course will be considered eligible.
Number of students taken each year may vary depending on the requirement. Maximum two applications will be considered from the same Institute / University.
First class at all the important qualifying examinations is essential eligibility criteria.
The duration of such projects should be minimum of THREE months. Requests for shorter period projects will not be entertained.
Maximum permissible / allowed period is six months, however extension is possible based on the performance of the candidate and willingness of supervisor.
Preference will be given to the candidates devoting their complete time for the project during this period.
NCCS will not provide any stipend / Hostel accommodation / charges any fee for the project training.
Interim enquiries will not be entertained.
Applications which are not in prescribed format / sent by email will be rejected.
