Project Personnel and Research Associate

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage a Project Personnel (01) and a Research Associate (01) through a Walk-in-Interview on Friday, 17th April 2009. The details of the available position along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below.

Details of projectS and positions

Project # 1: Tracking study of migratory Olive Ridley sea turtle along the east-coast of India.
(01 – Project Personnel)
Duration: April to December 2009.
Essential Qualification: Masters degree in Zoology/Statistics or Environmental Science with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification: Candidate should have technical qualification on application of GIS and Remote Sensing with at least one year experience of preparing maps, based on GIS and RS data.
Description of Work: The project aims to study the tracking of migratory Olive Ridley sea turtle along the east-coast of India.

Project # 2: Research Laboratory.
(01 – RA)
Duration: Initially for a period of one year.
Essential Qualification: Ph.D degree in ZoologyWildlife Sciences / Environmental Sciences / Forestry / Experimental Biology / Biological Sciences and / or Life Sciences from a recognized University. Those who have published their work in peer reviewed journals and shown evidence of capability to do independent research work will have a preference.
Desirable Qualification: (1) Adequate experience from any reputed laboratory in using advance analytical techniques for plant, animal, soil and water samples.
(2) Experience in handling and maintenance of various laboratory analytical equipments (AAS, HPLC, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer etc.) and operational knowledge of various computer software(s).
Description of Work: The work involves field visits and laboratory analysis for plant, animal, soil and water samples and also teaching advanced analytical techniques.
GENERAL:

1. Candidate for the position of Research Associate (RA-I) should be below 40 years of age and the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST. For the position of a Project Personnel, the age shall not be more than 28 years as on 15th April 2009.
2. Selected candidate for the position of Research Associate (RA-I) will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 16,000/- as per the norms of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and selected candidate for the for the position of Project Personnel will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month.
3. Selected candidates may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.
4. Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis initially and may be extended for further period depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project/cell.
5. The selection of the candidates will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Friday, 17th April 2009 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration of candidates will begin by 09:30 A.M. onwards.
6. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
7. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.
8. Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection.
9. Two way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.
10. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.

12. The Director, WII reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason.
